Charitable Gift Annuity

Charitable Gift Annuity
Wayne Mowrey joined the Music Department faculty at Shippensburg University more than five decades ago when it was Shippensburg State Teachers College, but his relationship with the school began before he became a professor.

Wayne's father, Dr. Raymond Mowrey, had been interim president of the college and served on its Council of Trustees for many years. Mowrey Hall, one of the residence halls on campus, is named for him. "I loved Shippensburg. I always thought it would be great to teach there, and I was so pleased when I got the opportunity," Wayne said.

Wayne's longtime love of the university led him and his late wife, Jane, to establish charitable gift annuities through the Shippensburg University Foundation. The annuities are providing him with an income stream through the rest of his life while financially supporting one of his favorite places on campus, the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center. "I was so happy there," Wayne said of SU, where he taught from 1958 until his retirement in 1980. "I loved the school and loved the students."

While at Shippensburg, Wayne founded and directed the Cumbelaires, a women's choir. Several choir members have stayed in touch with each other and with Wayne over the years. "They get together at each other's houses for potluck dinners, and they invite me to join them. We talk and sing and have a great time."

While Wayne and Jane supported a number of community organizations over the years, they always had a special fondness for SU. "It was easy for us to decide to make our gift," he said.
