Gifts of Insurance
Over the years, Duaine '72 and Trudy Collier have demonstrated their commitment to the Shippensburg community through their business ventures, which, while bolstering the local economy, have provided jobs for hundreds of individuals. As engaged citizens, the Colliers have participated in many community activities and organizations, but the mission of Shippensburg University has always been a priority to them.
Since 1995, Duaine has served on the SU Foundation Board of Directors where he currently chairs the Related Business Ventures Committee. Trudy co-chaired the 1999 Lady Raider Golf Tournament and is a past member of the Raiders Club Board of Directors. Both have volunteered in various capacities for the SU Foundation's Annual Fund, including serving as the National Annual Fund co-chairs from 1997-1999. In recognition of their outstanding service to the university, the Colliers received the SU Alumni Association's 2002 Exceptional Service Award, and this past May, Duaine received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Currently Duaine and Trudy serve on the Steering Committee for the Charting the Course, Lighting the Way campaign; Duaine also co-chairs the campaign's Corporations and Foundations Committee. Recently, they made a significant planned gift to the SU Foundation in the form of life insurance ultimately designated to the SU Foundation's Unrestricted Fund. The Shippensburg legacy is strong in the Collier family as their daughter, Crystal Collier-Walker '02-'06m, and son-in-law Eric Walker '03m, are alumni. "We know first hand the transformative power of a Shippensburg education," Trudy said.
"We feel strongly that all qualified students should have access to the opportunities at SU to prepare them for successful careers," Duaine added. "This is the driving force behind our philanthropy and our volunteer activities."
